Nowadays it is no secret that we are living in an emotional roller coaster type of lives. Our feelings and moods are always changing without any apparent reason. Sometimes we are happy, but regularly we find ourselves disappointed even though we might have everything working as expected.
This was often my case until I read and applied the magnificent principles from the book The Four Agreements by Migel Ruiz who offers amazing insights on the significance of our beliefs.
The first thing I actually learnt was about not taking anything personally. Whenever something happened to me, I thought this was nothing about me, my worth was not in danger at no moment and therefore I could relax continuing doing my own thing. So many times people treated me negatively, I did not even bother once because I knew they had nothing to do with me personally rather they were dealing with their own issues. I just smile and continued my day.
Even on an abstract way, I knew that this was life and nothing was against me personally. This is the way life is, this is the way the world is, this is the way people are. Once I had the epiphany that it was much easier to adapt to them than changing all of that, life became a pleasure. I just needed to make sure to stay proactive and focus on the only things that did concerned me.
In addition, as indicated in the book, I stopped making assumptions but rather ask for clarifications whenever the need arose. I enforced the concept or habit seeking first to understand.
