Edit
I got to meditate 30 minutes in the morning and 30 minutes in the evening. I refrained from thinking anything and just did it by jumping down into a meditative posture and started no mind presence or mindful meditation. At first it was difficult if not impossible not to think of anything. However, I knew the best way to be completely aware to the present moment was to listen.
Therefore I started listening the environment, about birds chirping outside, the clock's hands moving, and any other background sounds such as car horns in a far distant. It was not easy as well but with this kind of focus I was able to be more present to the current moment.
After around 15 minutes or so I eventually started feeling a tremendous sense of inner peace and security. I was separated from my mind and I was feeling completely alive. My mind stopped pestering me about constant streams of thoughts of the past and future. There was no more thoughts except the voice of the conscience which was basically me without any Ego. I got to stay in that exceptional blissful moment for around 15 minutes more and later on during the day, everything that would normally make me react before such as loud radio or TV actually made me smile. This was because I got the opportunity to become present.
That alone is worth the effort and time required for meditation.
