Paying Particular Attention to Details
Personally one of the characteristic that enables me to go the extra mile without having to compete with others, is the habit of paying particular attention to details.
I prefer doing something well, usually in the best of my ability, taking all my time rather than doing something fast but not good enough.
People remember how well we did a job rather than how fast we did it. This is particularly true when I usually had to wash my father's car. It was always a good reflective experience for me. I realised that I always took quite some time to do that because personally I wanted to do a good job. Unconsciously I will continue the task until I was satisfied.
Later on, I improved on this habit during my University years and eventually I got some good grades simply because I took the time to see how I could do things better.
Now when working I always see what I could improve even a little. There is actually a concept known as Kaizen which deals a lot of that.
